The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition!

Ironically, this is the Spacer’s Choice version of Quality…

After logging over 6 hours of the updated, “The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition” I can easily say without hesitation, it is not worth the current cost on Steam ($47.99). In fact, one might even say this release is broken. After experiencing significant lag throughout the game’s world, I went back and made several adjustments to the settings. I found that I had to sacrifice some of the graphical enhancements (I’ll get back to that in a minute), just to run the game, and things were not drastically improved whatsoever. The stable gameplay moments were few and far between, thus making it not an enjoyable experience.
The graphics have been touched up and you can definitely see the difference between Spacer’s Choice and the regular version of the game. I noticed in particular the facial recognition and even some of the environments have been improved, however this does not warrant a $47.99 price tag.

Regardless of the graphical improvements, the game needs to run smoothly and until they patch this up, it’s definitely not worth the bang for your buck. Save your money and play the original version, which offers a sufficient presentation and runs smoothly (minus the increased level cap).

Our Conclusion:

The Good: Improved lighting and character graphics; increased level cap (up to level 99).

The Bad: Lag, lag, and more lag. Period.

The Ugly: Sadly, this version does not allow the player to fully experience what the developers were trying to accomplish. It is inexplicably held back by major performance issues and until it’s fixed-save your money and buy the original version. This “upgrade” cost $10 on Steam if you own the original.
